What exactly is Boudoir Photography?
Boudoir is a French word meaning a woman’s sitting room, usually elegantly furnished, to which she may retire to be alone. Boudoir photography is a growing trend among women wanting sexy, beautiful and tasteful photos of themselves. The photos are often used as a gift for someone special but can also be kept as a reminder of what they looked like at certain time.
Boudoir, Jenny’s style:
My goal with each Boudoir session is to capture the unique beauty and sexiness in each woman (and have a great time while we’re at it!). Everyone has a different idea of “sexy,” whether it is romantic lingerie and some fabulous heels or a favorite football jersey and some adorable knee high socks. I love to hear a woman’s ideas and work with her to achieve whatever look she’s going for using a variety of techniques with lighting, outfits, posing and props. I highlight each woman’s softness and femininity, focusing on their best features and provide a mixture of fun, romantic and flirty images.
What can I expect from my Boudoir shoot?
First, a consultation. I love to chat with clients before the shoot. I like to hear what my clients are looking for, what they think is sexy, and anything they are nervous about. We discuss shooting date and locations and brainstorm outfits. The consultation is also a great way for me to get to know my client a little so I'm not a complete stranger on the day of the shoot.
On the day of the shoot I will meet you at the desired location and briefly review concepts and outfits before we start shooting. It is a laid back, no-rush atmosphere. Shooting takes about two hours, sometimes more depending on outfit changes, and we will change and do make up/hair touch-ups along the way. Within two weeks approximately 40 fully retouched photos will be placed in a password-protected online gallery for you to view.
Where do you do Boudoir sessions?
Anywhere! We are on-location photographers and are prepared with the equipment to shoot at any location. We love shooting in bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, hotel rooms… and if you’re brave enough we’ll even shoot outside!
What should I wear?!
That’s my favorite question. It’s all up to you! What do you think of when you think of sexy? Do you think romantic? Do you think of sexy as being cute? The main thing to keep in mind is that your clothing choices should suit both your taste and your comfort level.
Corsets, lingerie, nightgowns and stockings photograph beautifully. Boyshorts and sneakers are adorable and so are hats, scarves, and gloves. Some women will bring in their favorite evening dress, a fur coat or their boyfriend's favorite t-shirt… or some women choose to wear nothing at all.
Some things I recommend:
- Choose clothing that is form fitting. We need to see that beautiful body of yours!
- Don’t forget accessories! Think of your outfit from head to toe. Don’t forget hats, jewelry, SHOES.
- Bring at least one pair of heels. Heels do a great job of adding curves and make for some cool posing.
What should I do about Hair & Make Up?
You may have an idea of what you want for hair and makeup in your mind, and if so that's great. I can also help you think of ideas for hairstyles and have a few tips for make-up to achieve the look you're going for. If you are not comfortable doing your own hair and make up, I highly recommend a stylist. Professional hair and makeup artists know how to make someone "camera ready" with special techniques and colors. I know a few great stylists in the Denver/Boulder areas if you need a recommendation.
What if I’m shy?
I have yet to meet a client who is not shy at a Boudoir shoot. It's not every day that you take your clothes off for a complete stranger and I understand how intimidating it can be. I take pride in my ability to relax my clients with plenty of warm-up photos and a good sense of humor. By the end of my sessions I feel like my client is a new best friend and our cheeks hurt from laughing so much.
What if I think I'm not "sexy"?
I would first like to say that every single woman is sexy. I know it sounds so cliché, but it's true! And sexy isn't necessarily having a perfect body or knowing how to pose like a super model. It's my job to position you in the most flattering poses, highlight your beautiful features with great lighting and put you at ease in order to achieve "sexy".
I am also highly skilled in at Digital Retouching and let me tell you, even the most beautiful women in the world need touch-ups. I sometimes like to think of myself as a Digital Plastic Surgeon and refer to myself as "The Doctor" while I'm editing. I remove all bruises, blemishes, under-eye bags, stray hairs and other visual distractions. In order to keep the photos looking realistic and not cheesy I lighten things like scars, freckles, moles and wrinkles (the more permanent features) so that they are barely visible. I also lightly adjust posture, silhouette and other things of that nature with what I call Digital Lipo. The result is not noticeable and the images are amazing.
What should I do with my images?
We have a variety of products that are wonderful for gifts and keepsakes. Lucky boyfriends and husbands love getting these gifts for Valentine’s Day, birthdays and anniversaries. Brides have been pleasantly surprising their husbands-to-be on their wedding day. Some of our popular products include prints, calendars, albums, pocket albums and keychains.
Who will be at my Boudoir Session?
Jenny will be the only other person there during the session unless you choose to bring a friend. Jenny and Patrick will work together to set up lighting, backgrounds and anything else that needs to be prepared before the shoot. Once the set up is complete, Patrick will leave for the duration of the shooting and return to help pack up. We understand that this is a private experience and take care to make sure you feel 100% comfortable from start to finish.
Will you use my photos on your website?
No. Not unless I have permission from you. My images are secure and I keep them completely private. When I upload them online I make them password protected so that only you will be able to choose who sees them. I sometimes offer "model" discounts for women who let me use their images for advertising. If you're interested in being a model, let me know and I can give you more details.
What if I have more questions?
We would absolutely love to hear from you. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or to book your shoot! We have limited number of Boudoir Shoots available for Valentine's Day so book early this year!
